On Ubuntu and Yahoo
I've been quiet on the Ubuntu-Yahoo deal so far, but in my comments people seem to take me as hostile to this decision.
Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is on this issue, Ubuntu is not replacing an open service like Identi.ca by something like twitter on new installs and upgrades.
It's trading one commercial search provider with another because of a straight forward business deal, one they have been completely open about too.
So, if this brings revenue to Ubuntu, I'm all for it but I wished they wouldn't do it for upgrades and I personally will revert back to Google because it is the better search engine IMO, not because of ethical issues.

Fair enough
IMO the only issue with the change in the default search engine is that it's "forced" on the users during the upgrade.
A good solution IMO should be noticing the user about the change when Firefox is launched the first time (maybe in the usual "Your firefox is upgraded" web page which is always shown the first time after an upgrade).
That webpage could contain a notice ("we switched to a new default search engine in Ubuntu 10.04 for these reasons...") and the instruction on how to switch to the preferred search engine.
As an alternative, you can use my cunning ploy, yahoo google then search away :) revenue and a better engine :)
